Tips Before You Begin:
- The fresher the strawberries, the better your dessert will taste. Look for large, fresh, organic strawberries. The berries are the star of the show, so we want to ensure that they are the best of the best.
- Chocolate is a touchy subject, mainly because everyone likes different things. So, ignore what other people tell you should be covering your strawberries with and choose the chocolate that best serves your taste buds. If white chocolate is your favorite, then use that. Milk Chocolate or Dark Chocolate? It is completely up to you. Use the chocolate that you love the most.
Melting Chocolate
Melting chocolate can be a little tricky. There are two ways to do it successfully without needing too many supplies. The first way is on the stovetop. You are going to need a decent-sized saucepan and a glass bowl that will fit over the top of it, without falling into the water, to use a double boiler. Place the chocolate and vegetable oil in the glass dish above the boiling water and stir continuously until it is completely melted. Once melted remove it from heat; if you keep it over the heat for too long then the chocolate will burn and you will have to begin again.
If that sounds too intimidating then you can also place your chocolate and vegetable oil in a microwave-safe dish and heat up in the microwave. Set the timer for one minute but stop to stir about every 20 seconds to stir and ensure that it does not burn.
Chocolate-Dipped Strawberries
- Serving size: 20 strawberries
- Prep Time: 30 minutes
Ingredients:
- 2 cups (332g) medium-large strawberries
- ½ cup (90g) of semisweet white, dark, and pink chocolate
- 1 tsp vegetable oil (for each chocolate color)
- Sprinkles and walnuts for decoration as desired
How to Prepare:
- Wash your fresh strawberries to clean them and then pat dry so they have no water on them. Once they have completely dried, have them in a bowl ready to dip into your chocolate. Prep out a tray with parchment paper on the bottom for the finished strawberries to be placed.
- Place your glass bowl over the boiling water. Pour in your chocolate chunks and vegetable oil into the glass bowl. Stir continuously until the chocolate has thoroughly melted. (Be sure not to stop stirring as your chocolate can very quickly burn.) Repeat this step for other chocolates if you would like to have more than one kind of dipped strawberry.
- Once your chocolate is melted, remove it from above the saucepan while being careful not to burn yourself.
- Take your dried strawberry and dip it into your bowl of chocolate. Give it a swirl around so that the chocolate completely coats the strawberry. Once coated, place on your parchment paper to harden.
- This is the simple way to make this special dessert but if you want to take this from elegant to extravagant then you can add sprinkles, walnuts, or even more chocolate chips on top of the melted chocolate. All you need to do is have your preference of topping in a bowl and dip the chocolate-covered strawberry in your toppings after dipping it into the chocolate. Doing it right after will make sure that it sticks onto the strawberry correctly as the chocolate solidifies.
- Repeat these steps with each strawberry and decide which chocolate you would like to dip them in and which ones will have special toppings on them.
- If you are wanting a chocolate-dipped strawberry without too much frill, yet still luscious, then add some chocolate stripes. If you have a white chocolate strawberry, take a fork, dip it in your melted milk chocolate, and slowly drizzle over the strawberry for that extra touch of class. Switch back and forth with your different chocolates for an array of options and delicate décor.
- How about a double-dip? After the first layer of chocolate is on your strawberry and completely hardened, dip the bottom half in a different kind of chocolate to make add that extra layer of sugary goodness and to draw the eye with a touch of elegance.
- There are so many ways to enjoy this easy-to-make dessert. Remember, just because it’s simple, doesn’t mean it’s not elegant and romantic.
