Tips Before You Begin:
- Fresh strawberries are KEY! Frozen would be decent to use but there is something magical about a fresh strawberry in this recipe. So pick out the most beautiful strawberries you can find at the store or your local farmers market to make your lemonade amazing.
- An easy trick for getting the most juice out of your lemon is to firmly roll it in on the counter before you cut it in half. Applying pressure to the lemon allows the inside to soften instead of being so stiff so when you use your juicer you are getting the most of your lemon.
- The kind of sugar that you use matters. White granulated sugar is the best to mix in this recipe but if you are looking for something a little different, try using coconut sugar instead. The consistency is close to that of white sugar and it is slightly better for you.
- If you are wanting to use a sugar-free substitute then just swap out your white granulated sugar for your sweetener of choice. The amount will change based on which alternate sweetener you choose. Because of this, slowly pour your alternative sweetener in and taste every so often to make sure it doesn’t overwhelm the rest of your ingredients.
Strawberry Lemonade
- Prep Time: 15 minutes
- Serving size: 7
Ingredients:
- 1/2 pound fresh strawberries, stems removed
- 11oz (1 1/2 cups) granulated sugar
- Around 40 fl oz (4 1/2-5) cups water, divided
- 12 fl oz (1 1/2 cups) fresh-squeezed lemon juice
How to Prepare:
- Clean and dry ½ pound of fresh strawberries and remove the stems.
- Place the strawberries in a food processor or blender and blend until they become a purée consistency.
- Using a fine-mesh strainer, strain the purée through, so only the juice of the strawberry is captured in a cup. (Pro Tip: save the rest of the purée remains for later to put on your toast or bowl of ice cream.)
- To make your simple syrup for the lemonade, pour 1 ½ cups of granulated sugar into a saucepan along with two cups of water. Cook over medium heat and stir until the sugar has completely dissolved.
- Leave your simple syrup to the side to cool to room temperature.
- In a large pitcher or carafe add 1 ½ freshly squeezed lemon juice, your sundae pan of simple syrup, and your strawberry juice.
- Stir these ingredients together and allow them to cool and meld in the fridge.
- When you are ready to serve, add two and a half cups of water to your pitcher and mix together.
- Serve with ice in a tall glass and a garnish with a lemon wheel and strawberry wedge.
Frequently Asked Questions:
Lemon juice concentrate just can’t compete with freshly juiced lemons. It is a lot more acidic and has a heavier tartness to it which doesn’t make this lemonade enjoyable.
You can definitely add more sugar to your recipe if you prefer things to be sweeter.
